About the Author
Loren Christensen began his law enforcement career in 1967 when he served in the army as a military policeman in the United States and in Vietnam. He joined the Portland, Oregon, Police Bureau in 1972 and retired in 1997. During those years, he specialized in street gangs, defensive tactics, dignitary protection, and patrolling the bizarre streets of skid row. He now writes full time and teaches martial arts.

Essential Reading!

Did you know that according to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, workplace homicide is the leading cause of death among female workers in the United States and the second leading cause of death among men? 18,000 people a week are victimized by some sort of violence in the workplace in this country alone! Understanding how to protect yourself and your employees is indispensable knowledge.

I was privileged to receive an advanced copy of this important work to review before its official publication and found it well written, informative, and packed with essential information. Loren Christensen is one of my favorite authors. A retired police officer, Vietnam veteran, and 7th Dan black belt he really knows his stuff. For the record, I have a library of over 230 martial arts books. Many are in mint condition; stuff I've read only once, didn't finish, or never got around to. Christensen's are all dog-eared with sticky notes and scribbles in the margins, solid material I read over and over again. As always his advice is practical, useful, and easy to read.

In 'Surviving Workplace Violence' Christensen does a great job of making readers aware of the threat and presents solid strategies for keeping us safe. It is pretty short, a mere 105 pages, yet extremely valuable nevertheless. Its pithiness positions it as an excellent reference manual that just about anyone can read and understand in a few short hours. Clearly you cannot become an expert in such a short time yet the materials herein could literally save your life.

The vignettes in this book are startling and very informative. For example, it describes a situation where a 70-year-old salesman attacked and killed his former boss with a mason's hammer several months after she fired him for spitting on another employee. This clearly points out that just about anyone can be a potential hazard. Christensen describes warning signs (employee behaviors) that may indicate a higher likelihood of threat.

The author covers essential survival strategies for the employer (e.g., company policies/committees), as well as for the employee. The latter include awareness, stages of alertness (i.e., white, yellow, orange, red, black), hiding places, escape routes, incident response, combat breathing, mental imagery, and fighting back. He offers specific techniques that can be used against common weapons (e.g., knife, handgun, rifle) as well as descriptions of how to use common implements (e.g., stapler, pen, coffee cup) to help you fight back should you be forced to do so.

Worse, he often left Teddy and their son, Timothy, behind for years at a time while he built planes for the war effort in the 1940s or brokered oil deals—he was the first American to lease mineral rights in Saudi Arabia, which made him, at his death, the richest man in the world. Even when Timothy was diagnosed with a brain tumor, Getty complained about medical bills and failed to return to the United States to support his wife and son. When Timothy died at age twelve, the marriage was already falling apart.

Teddy's unrelenting spirit, her valiant friendship, and her winning lack of vanity transform what could have been a sob story into a nuanced portrait of a brilliant but stubbornly difficult man and the family he loved but left behind, as well as an enchanting view into a bygone era. About the Author

Theodora "Teddy" Getty Gaston, born in Chicago in 1913, began singing at the age of sixteen in the chorus of J. J. Shubert's Arms and the Maid and, in the twenties, performed as a torch singer in New York's most prestigious supper clubs. She studied opera in Europe and worked for the New York Herald Tribune during World War II. After a long romance, she married J. Paul Getty, with whom she had one child. During their eighteen-year marriage, Teddy acted in Forgotten Women and Billy Wilder's The Lost Weekend, and she started a water company, a candy company, and a children's charity in her son's name. In 1990, she wrote her first book, The Mark of the Eagle.

Digby Diehl is one of the most trusted and successful literary collaborators in America. He has written, cowritten, rewritten, researched, and edited more than three dozen books. He was the founding editor of the original Los Angeles Times Book Review and previously served as a book columnist for AARP The Magazine and as a literary correspondent for ABC's Good Morning America. Diehl is currently the book editor of The Rotarian and writes articles and reviews for publications such as Esquire, the New York Times, People, and TV Guide. He lives in Pasadena with his wife, Kay Beyer Diehl.

If you want Kardashian don't read this book. This book is about a woman who had not a lot of self worth due to sexual abuse and rape as a child and ended up marrying america's first billionaire- NOT for the money- I think love and wanting to be something more was what she wanted....its fascinating really what she went through and how a woman's libber she was back in 1938 when she refuses to leave italy after they wed... It shows a side of Getty no one has seen- a human side by someone who should have stayed married to a man but chose to leave because she wanted more in the end...Its sad what happened to their son ...like the movie The way we were...look between the lines on this one and get pulled into another era

Teddy Getty Gaston aspired to do three things, have a successful singing career, marry the man she loved, and have a beautiful child. She did it all. In Alone Together: My Life with J. Paul Getty by Teddy Getty Gaston with Digby Diehl, the reader gets insight into a magical love affair with one of the barons of American industry J. Paul Getty.
Up to this point, Getty to me was a name synonymous with buildings and supporters of great causes, I did not really know anything about this family.
The author, who just turned 100, takes you to a simple time of fancy parties, salons, and a changing world as globalization was transforming the world. Teddy was a modern woman in a time that the traditional role was standard. As Getty's fourth wife, she loved a man who was complex, fascinating, and worked all the time.
Her first person accounts of World War II and how she got tangled up in the bureaucratic maze are very telling. In the end, this memoir is about a woman who did it her way and reminds us that we all need to live full interesting lives.

Throw a little Heat at me!

Having loved the first two in the series, both "Stealing Home" and "Playing the Field," I jumped at the chance to read an ARC of Throwing Heat. Jennifer Seasons writes terrific baseball players, fantastic romances, and some pretty hot scenes if you know what I mean. The third book in the series tells the story of Peter Kowalskin, pitcher of the Denver Rush baseball team and Leslie Cutter, sister of Mark Cutter the Rush’s catcher.
Anticipating their fiery romance, Peter and Leslie come together in a crash, bang, boom that you’ve come to expect in a Seasons’ novel. Having had a brief fling in the past, when Leslie’s apartment is flooded by a plumbing problem, Peter sees this as an opportunity to finally find a way to get with Leslie. Beyond her plumbing problems, Leslie is dealing with financial hardships and trying to get her night club on the map. Peter is facing the end of his career, health problems, and an uncertainty in his future.
While I enjoyed the romance and the dialogue was very clever, it almost seemed like there was too much story. We have health issues, physical injuries, death, money problems, miscommunication and I honestly felt like I was on a roller coaster part of the time. Great characters but with so many obstacles in their path and not really dealt with, the book was a little ruined for me. I still loved the characters and enjoyed the story, it just felt like too much story in that amount of pages.
Throwing Heat is a fairly good addition to the Diamonds and Dugouts Series but I wouldn’t recommend it as a read alone for people new to Seasons’ work. Peter and Leslie are fun, witty, and wildly romantic characters but the abundance of problems made the book a little too much work for me as a reader. If you are wanting to start the series, be sure to check out "Stealing Home" and "Playing the Field" first.

Finally, Peter and Leslie's story!!

I love Jennifer Seasons and I've been waiting for these two to get together since STEALING HOME. I won't give anything away, but if you loved these two in the other books, you won't be disappointed here. Fun, sexy, and with just the right amount of baseball to liven things up, this was the perfect weekend read. Definitely recommended for fans of baseball and light, sexy contemporary romance.

Couldn't wait for this story and it was worth it!

Throwing Heat was the one Diamonds and Dugouts novel I was looking forward to the most! I loved Stealing home, it was funny and sexy and romantic. Playing the Field was sweet and heart warming. But ever since I started this series I have gotten little glimpses of this couple, Leslie and Peter, and have become enamored with their story. What started as little side glances turned into lingering stares packed with intense heat. From lingering stares turned intense heat became stolen moments alone and compromising positions in each book that hooked me into their story instantly. The juiciest part of all that heat was knowing that Leslie had been dating one of Peter's teammates the entire time. I'm usually "Molly Morality" when it comes to cheating and such but just knowing this couple had this much chemistry as secondary characters in the other books in the series, I had to know more.

Little did I know these two have serious history built into all that chemistry. Four years worth after and incident in Miami between the two ended with a sexually frustrated Peter and a confused and heart broken Leslie. Leslie's background was a little sad being that she was looking at hard jail-time after a former lover got her in hot water with the IRS and ruined her career as a PR rep. Now she's running her brothers nightclub and picking up the pieces of her busted life she worked so hard for. I loved Leslie instantly the moment she came into the picture during Stealing Home. She was just so down to earth and with her Southern charm and delightful accent I was a goner for this feisty heroine. From the beginning she was a ball buster who didn't take any crap from anyone which was only proved more correct in her own story. Making a bet with Peter that she can abstain from sex with the sexy pitcher in exchange for the money to buy the club from her brother AND making Peter sing for her turns this couple's chemistry up a whole other notch because Peter plays dirty.

Peter Kowalskin has been one of my series favorite men from the beginning. He's fun, cocky, silly and sexy wrapped in a black haired blue eyed package that is absolutely my kryptonite. What made me fall in love with him though, was his faithfulness in his feelings for Leslie even though he constantly refuses to admit them to anyone even himself. He's stubborn and closed off due to his crappy home life as a kid with an abusive alcoholic father. Extreme feelings of worthlessness haunt this amazing guy and keeps him from making a move other than to get Leslie in his bed. ON top of his emotional meltdown he's having to face the end of his career on top of a degenerative disease that threatens his eyesight. The deck of life is stacked against Peter and it's not even the fact that's he's the underdog of the story that is the main reason why I loved this guy so much. It's not even the fact that his name is fun to say. Kowalskin. It's the simple fact that I saw so much of my emotional makeup in his character that made me love the guy. It's usually the female heroines I connect with the most but once in a while the guys will throw me for a loop and Peter was one of them. Peter was raised with no example of how to love or even being loved in return so the only way he knows how to respond is to close himself off and shove people away. I didn't grow up that way exactly because my mother smothered me in love but I can relate to trying to love people only to have them shove it right back at you and walk away. The feelings of being closed off and not feeling like it is worth the effort was a major point of connection for me with Peter. He was one of those characters that had so much to give but needed the right person to open him up to it.

When I realized that Leslie and Peter had chemistry and she was dating someone else I began to think this book would be about them fighting their connection while Leslie was still involved with the other teammate John but I quickly learned it was about them fighting their connection. Period. While I was a little disappointed there wouldn't be any juicy conflict like that I was satisfied to get into the marrow of their issues. Leslie's feelings of rejection from when Peter left her in Miami high and dry and Peter's intense love for her that he doesn't admit to easily. The majority of their romance hinges on the ramifications of this bet they make with each other but the magic happens slowly throughout and gives us some really sexy moments showing off Peter's amazingly skilled hands. I didn't expect these books to be so explicitly sexy but what a nice surprise it was.

Something I have found myself noticing throughout this series is how well this author details her secondary characters and incorporates them into the story without them overtaking the book. She knows exactly how to work them into the landscape making you want more but keeping your focus on the main couple and their story. It's happened with each book and now I'm sincerely hoping we'll get a book about this ugly character Drake Paulson I keep reading so much about. Every single character has described him as tall, ugly and hairy and this is exactly the kind of character I want to read about because he's not your average 'Devastatingly handsome' hero. Or she could absolutely write a story about Lorelei's brother Logan, as I've harped on in my last two reviews, and I would be happy as a clam. Either way, I really hope this isn't the end of this series because I have been captivated for 3 days by these books and I JUST. NEED. MORE. Baseball players, hot sex, delicious romance and lots of humor and heart, Diamonds and Dugouts is a sure bet for any romance lover.

Not For Me

***SPOILER*** I was introduced to the main characters in this book, Alex and Leyla, in Flirting With Danger and after seeing the high ratings it was given by the two previous reviewers I bought it, but my reading experience was vastly different from the one they had. I didn't like Leyla's personality and I absolutely hated that Alex and Leyla had originally hooked up by having an extramarital affair. Their affair and the subsequent effect it had on their careers was a back story. After a time they each ended up at Angel Mendez Children's Hospital, Alex discovers that Leyla is now divorced and of course they get involved again. ***END SPOILER***

I wrote this review because I would have liked this information before I bought the book. I hated this book and would never have bought it if I'd known the real story beforehand. I actually deleted it from my Kindle and got a refund from Amazon.

Reunion Story!

NYC Angels: An Explosive Reunion by Alison Roberts is a great ending for the NYC Angels series.

Dr. Alex Rodriguez and Dr. Layla Woods have been running from their past in one way or another. He ran by going to another country and away from scandal for five years. Layla ran from the life written for her by her parents and has been trying to write the story of her life herself.

Now they are both working at Angels together and the chemistry that they had five years ago that brought on their affair is still burning bright but the tragedy that ended their affair is like a wall standing between them.

As they face a new case very similar to the one that ended in tragedy before, they will face their demons once again. But it will be up to them to face them and fight them if they want something permanent to come from the love that has been growing more and more between them.

Both Layla and Alex are damaged by their individual past as well, but together they learn how things can really be if they are willing to face things together. The tension and chemistry between them has been taunting us for a couple of books.

It is great to see all the characters from the previous books make a visit in this last book. We get to see how their lives have been progressing in the own HEA and what is going on with them.

If you like a good romance with some good conflict, back story and a great HEA, NYC Angels: An Explosive Reunion by Alison Roberts is the one for you. And don't miss the other books in this series too, I really recommend them all.

Falling for the woman of your dreams and being one of the worlds top surgeons are two of the most important and greatest achievements for anyone, but when you loose the woman of your dreams and then loose a patient the next day and then get sued for the death it is bound to destroy any faith you might have had in life and yourself.

Finding it again can be a long and torturous journey. And sometimes facing the past is the only way to get back up and out there.

In the eighth and final book from the new Mills and Boon NYC Angels series it tells the story of Alex and Layla, for those of you that have read the other seven books in the series you will know that these two have been going at it for quite some time and we have been given glimpses into their relationship or lack there of, and personally I have been waiting to get the full story ever since book one.

The read tells of Layla, she was trapped in a dead end marriage and took a easy way out, by starting a blazing hot passionate affair with sexy together-we-will-create-more-steam-in-the-shower -without-so-much-as-a-drop-of-water Alex!

However Layla finds herself at point where she hates herself and her actions and calls off the affair, only she does so the night before Alex is to take on a major operation, his focus is not all there and thus he looses the lifesaving battle.

The grieve stricken family lash out by suing and Alex's life tumbles to the ground. He picks himself and carries on but always holds the guilt close to his heart. When Layla shows up again the red hot attraction is still there, he can't resist her and soon they are back in bed together but can he trust her enough to not walk away again this time, or even trust himself enough to not fail again?

The character of Layla, was one I did not like all that much as cheating on your husband is never the right answer, find a way out of the marriage and then start thinking of a new future, the hurt to others involved is always less that way. I could understand why the author lets her be so weak but I also wanted to see her get up and fight for happiness and I adored when the author finally lets her take control of her life.

The character of Alex was absolutely addictive, I could not for one moment stop wanting to know more about the man that faced so much hurt and anger and I simply adored the manner in which the author lets him find the trust not only in himself but in others again in order to get his life back.

The backdrop setting were as in the previous books focused mainly on the hospital , again it brought out the emotional and heartfelt moments of drama and the very real truth of what medical staff need to face inside and outside the emergency doors, they are afterall just like us only human.

The dialogue was great, the author gave me wonderful enjoyable moments of conflict and truth revealing moments of joy and sorrow.

I took away a message of holding onto the past and never trusting again can be the biggest downfall when you need to get up and try again.

I highly recommend this book for all lovers of romance with medical drama as a backdrop and second chance love.

Spooky page-turner.

Disclaimer: I know Sonja and read a very small part of this novel in workshop several years ago, and was glad to read the rest of the story, so to speak.

Lacey Mizlack, an elementary school teacher, and her husband, Eric,a lawyer, need to find a house. Lacey is three months pregnant and wants a home for their family. She had an unstable childhood and it's important to her that her child has a home. After an extensive search, Lacey finds a Cape Cod fixer-upper she must have. Eric isn't so sure he wants to take on the project. Their realtor, CarolAnna doesn't want them to buy this house because people have died in that house. When the owner, and next door neighbor, Harry Rakoczy introduces himself, CarolAnna and her objections are shunted to the side. Seven weeks later, Eric and Lacey are moving in, and Lacey's nightmare begins.

The first sense something about the house is off is on moving day, when Lacey is carrying a box of dishes into the house and is challenged by a small boy on a bike, riding along the sidewalk in front of their house, stopping at the property line on each side before turning around and riding back the other way, ringing his bell each time he stops. When he pedals in front of Lacey, she drops the box when the boy's shoulder brushes it, and she hears the dishes break when the box hits the ground. Eric opens the box and is upset at the amount of damage. Lacey is surprised at the amount of damage; it seems excessive for one drop. Eric doesn't mention the boy at all--because Eric doesn't see him, only Lacey.

The little boy's name is Drew and only Lacey can see him. Drew reminds her of the troubled boys she used to teach, and she's determined to help him the way she helped her students. But as she learns, Drew is far more dangerous than any of her previous pupils, putting her, Eric, and their unborn baby in danger.

"Starter House" is Condit's debut novel, and it's a page turner. The story kept me up until after 1am, because I couldn't put it down to finish it at a more reasonable hour. It was worth sacrificing a few hours sleep to finish the novel.

Not What I Hoped For...

I think I am going to have to stop gambling on haunted house novels. This is yet another one that fails to deliver any genuine chills - I even helped it halfway by reading it in my own starter house, with my husband out of town, at night! This debut is initially engaging - a newlywed couple with their first child on the way have purchased their first home in South Carolina. But the middle lags and the final confrontation is too fragmented and it ends with an unsatisfying conclusion. In an effort to be original, the supernatural element - though unique - falls flat and fails to even come close to truly making sense. The side story goes completely unresolved and the reconciliation between Lacey and Eric crosses the line into lame.

The relationships between the husband and wife are perhaps the only frightening part of the story. Their resentment based on finances are never properly dealt with, and they seem more like strangers than anything else. Even Lacey’s relationship with her eccentric mother, Ella Dane, feels dishonestly fractured and incompletely repaired. All of the characters lack any real development (except perhaps for Bibbits - he does feel authentic). But as a spooky story, the book really falls flat. It contains all the elements of an episode of “A Haunting” - and none of the special effects. It builds on cliches and the nonsensical “twist” is just plain disappointing.

THE MALEVOLENT PRESENCE

Eric and Lacey are having their first baby, and the house hunt has been long and grueling. After the childhood Lacey had, moving around all the time and sometimes living in the car, she has been looking forward to finally having just the right home.

When she sees the dusty rose Cape Cod in the neighborhood they have selected, she is ecstatic. Yes, it is a fixer-upper, but she can visualize it when completed.

So they move in. But unfortunately, things are not going the way they'd hoped. Somewhere in the house is a malevolent presence. It shows itself as a nine-year-old boy named Drew, demanding and jealous, reminding Lacey of the "noisy boys" she used to teach. She thinks she can somehow persuade him to leave her alone. None of it is working.

Meanwhile, Eric works long hours and Lacey is alone a lot. Eric is not very supportive, so she feels more and more isolated.

Starter House: A Novel is a story about mysterious and deadly secrets, and how the beautiful cottage has been the scene of loss and horror. Trying to unravel the stories of the house, Lacey hopes to find peace at last.

But what must happen before the presence leaves them alone? Will Drew leave them alone if they vacate the house? Or will he follow? What does he want?

This was a story that I had a hard time liking, but I kept turning those pages, because I wanted to know what would happen. I did not like Eric, who seemed like a controlling and somewhat whiny man who blamed others for his problems. And Lacey was entirely too patient with Drew...almost wimpy. But who is to know how to handle these paranormal nightmares? I was relieved when the book ended, although I thought the conclusion wrapped up a little too neatly. 3.5 stars.

Daniel Hannan is a writer and blogger, and he has been a member of the European Parliament representing South East England for the Conservative Party since 1999. Erudite, Provocative, Counterintuitive

Daniel Hannan is clearly on the side of the principles that made the English-speaking countries bastions of stable government - foremost, the rule of law. First, there were principles - individual rights, private property, representative government - then institutions that enshrined and enforced these principles. Why is it that England and its former colonies have governments that represent the people to a greater or lesser degree, while the former colonies of France and Spain are unstable autocracies cloaked in the figleaf of a constitution ignored in practice? Why is England stable, while Peru is not? It takes a book to answer the question, and Hannan begins with the orgins of the rule of law in ancient England. The invading Normans adopted the nascent institutions of the Anglo-Saxons and began to think of themselves as English. What he calls the two civil wars are recounted in fascinating detail - the first being the English Glorious Revolution of 1688, the second the American revolution, which Hannan considers not a revolution by Americans against the British, but a civil war in which the colonies viewed themselves British and the English rulers as violating the colonies' rights as British subjects. Each chapter is considered in historical detail, overturning many received assumptions. The chapter on Anglobalization examines in turn the nations of the United Kingdom and the interesting case of India. Always, Hannan is enlightening and erudite. You can learn much from reading this book, and it's a keeper on my bookshelf.

The Libertarian Conscience of the Anglosphere

Author Daniel Hannan is a person of English ancestry who was born and raised in Peru then relocated to the United Kingdom as an adult and made a career in politics, including becoming one of the U.K.'s representatives to the European Parliament. His global experience has shown him how unique is our "Anglosphere" heritage of representative democracy, protection of property rights, the sanctity of law, and the inalienable rights of the individual.

These values are imbedded so deeply in our culture that they have become part of our subconscious. Because we take them for granted, we often forget to value them as being the foundation of our liberty and prosperity.

I've also lived and worked around the world and have also come to a similar appreciation. English-derived culture and law IS unique in its protection of individual liberty and property rights. The Napoleonic-derived law that governs Continental Europe and its former Latin American Colonies assumes that in criminal matters the accused is guilty until proven innocent. It assumes that individuals have no natural rights to liberty, but are only licensed certain rights by the state. As a result, human rights and property rights are severely constrained.

For example, Latin America, which inherited Spanish and Portuguese law, does not permit individual ownership of subsurface mineral rights such as oil or gold. ALL subsurface wealth belongs to the state. These countries do not have independent judiciaries that are empowered to invalidate unconstitutional edicts of the government. Any judge in Latin America who rules against the wishes of the government risks being deposed and imprisoned. Most of these countries have not amounted to much either in terms of freedom or prosperity.

Hannan goes into interesting detail explaining the specifics of how the English developed their deeply ingrained respect for human rights and property rights and then transmitted that culture to its overseas colonies of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and (arguably) India. Here are a couple of excellent quotes among many:

Like the British we Americans have had incessant conflicts over how best to balance the desire for individual liberty with the necessity to conform to national laws. How far should we go in decentralizing our government into small units of state and local governments, which are most responsive to the people, and how much authority should we retain in the national government?

We have been fighting over those issues of centralization vs. states rights from the time the Constitution was ratified (the Constitution's strong national government was OPPOSED by many of the original Patriots) through the Civil War and on down to the present "Tea Party Revolt."

Hannan provides a thorough grounding of how these issues developed throughout British history, including that murky time before 1776 when the territory that later became the USA was governed from England and took part in its civil wars and political intrigues.

Hannan also discusses some important questions about how the nations within the "Anglosphere" should affiliate with each other:

1. Should the United Kingdom distance itself from the centralizing tendencies of the European Union, which it has little in common with in law or culture, and strengthen economic and political ties with its "Anglosphere partners" in the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand?

2. And what about India, the giant of the English-speaking world, that will soon be the most populous country in the world (at well over a billion people), and with a dynamic, fast-growing economy, that may become one of the world's largest. Should we embrace India as an "Anglosphere" country on a par with England, the USA, Canada, etc. and engage it with free trade and facilitated immigration of Indians who would like to relocate to the other countries?

These are timely issues that all of us in the "Anglosphere" should be carefully considering.

I do have to fault the book on a couple of lesser points. One is that Hannan seems to be extremely well educated about every part of the world EXCEPT the United States. In my opinion his lack of complete knowledge of American history leads him to innocently mischaracterize the motives of the American Revolution. He takes the revisionist tack that the American Revolution was a manifestation of an English Civil War between the King's opponents and supporters. He throws cold water on the view that our revolution had anything to do with a nationalist desire to form an independent country.

That is an over-simplified view because American nationalists, who wanted the Thirteen Colonies to become an independent sovereign Republic, were prolific writers on that very subject decades before the Revolution broke out in 1775. This view doesn't detract any from the main ideas that Hannan wants to get across, but my antennae went up when I read his take on the American Revolution.

The book leaves us with the question: How do we of the Anglosphere maintain the precious heritage of human rights and property rights that the British instilled in our culture? The constantly improving means of communications and control seem to be centralizing power in national governments and leaving the state and county governments to wither on the vine. The American "Teaparty Movement" is confronting that issue at this very moment. They are particularly incensed by the federalization of healthcare and by the ever-rising taxes needed to pay for that and other exploding social welfare programs instigated by the national government.

If this is a question that interests you as a liberty-loving person, then you need to read this book in order to obtain a solid grounding on how our culture of human rights and property rights originated. Fish who live in the water don't miss it until they're taken out of it. This book will educate you on how to appreciate the ocean of liberty we swim in and what we would lose if it were ever taken away.

We are all Anglo-Saxons.

I will not rehash all the points of this wonderful book. Plenty of reviewers have already done so. But, if you have any interest in having a better understanding of what it means when we talk of our Anglo-Saxon culture/society/political heritage, you should read this book. Daniel Hannan has written this book in a manner that has tied us in the present all the way back to our Germanic cultural ancestors before they left the continent for Britain.
