Descendant

I have zero idea why I held off so long to read Descendant. I really enjoyed Starling, and last year at Fan Expo I was dying to pick this one up to start right away. Yah, that didn’t happen and then randomly in July I seen it on my shelf and knew I had to read it immediately.
Descendant leads off nearly at the moment that Starling ended. I was worried that there might be a gap in story, but alas it didn’t!
Mason is definitely much stronger in Descendant. She seems to have an extra push in her that she didn’t in Starling, and her claustrophobia doesn’t seem to have as big of an impact on her. Fenn is still awesome as he was in Starling. It’s really hard to think back about the impact that the characters had on me, because really the punch that Descendant packs is in its story, plot and the never-ending action…
One of the things that I absolutely adore about this series is the non stop action. There isn’t a single moment in both Starling and Descendant where there is a lull in action or plot. The pacing is fantastic, I couldn’t put this book down and it’s definitely a one sitting type of read.
Once again the mythology drew me into the story. Over the past year I have really taken a bit interest in mythology so that aspect thrilled me even more in Descendant than it did in the first installment. I was much more familiar with a lot of the characters so I think that played a part in drawing me in. There is a lot of mythological beings that are shown in this book and I enjoyed encountering everyone.
Descendant was a perfect second book in this series. I didn’t find that there was the seemingly regular second-book-syndrome and I’m itching to read the third and final book in the trilogy. There was another huge cliffhanger at the end, so I have no idea where Transcendent will take us or what will happen!

Awesome Sequel!!

Wanting something excited to read, I picked up this story. It indeed have lots of action from the very first page.
Plot: While the first book was told in Mason's point of view, this story is mainly told from Rory's and Fennry's point of view. This plot is jammed-packed with actions, lots of fights, on the run thrills. It kept me firmly in my seat with stunning revelations as well as new characters coming into play.
New Characters: There are a few new characters like, Gunner, who is Mason's and Rory's dad. Honestly, what this man does or what he has planned literally stunned me. The author tricked me!! (which is good cause I totally didn't see that coming) The Fennrys Wolf is another character who the reader gets to know pretty well. I really like the element and knowledge that he brings to the table. And then there is Cal. Even though he has proven himself some, I'm still a bit weary of what he is doing.
Love: There really isn't any movement from the last book till this one. Just plenty of friendships/relationship unravel with different motives before the readers eyes. Though, there is plenty of action in this that you really don't realize that you have missed the loved interest. At least I didn't.
Ending: It's a shocker. I just didn't see that motive coming and I'm super excited to read the next book already.
After flying through this book pretty quickly, I'm adored it. Descendant is an excellent addition to the Starling series raising up the stakes. With lots of unexpected twist and turns, Descendant captures the reader with a thought-provoking story. Telling a story that is brilliant and worthwhile. Descendant is tantalizing.

The first half of the book was a little slow; basically just showing Mason traveling in the Other Realms and talking to all the wrong people. Only Fennrys really got any action, when he wasn't mooning over "the loss of his tru wuv!!" *sigh*
And I just found Heather's narratives unnecessary. For the most part, they didn't add anything to the story, and frankly they just annoyed the Hel out of me, since they only appeared when something was happening to another character I actually heated to be reading about. Same goes for Cal's narratives. Just pointless.
Other than that, the book was fairly eventful. This is definitely a book that was made to prepare the readers for a grand finale. Can't wait to see just what that finale is!!
